Fiery Trials: Why We Have to Burn to Grow

If you live in the country, burning the fields is a yearly ritual. It’s hot, smoky, and looks destructive, but it is absolutely necessary for new growth.

In this vlog from the Evening Shade Outpost, we get a front-row seat to a controlled burn on 50 acres of land. But amidst the smoke and flames, there is a deeper spiritual lesson about the trials we face in life.

The Purpose of the Fire As the video shows, the field was full of obstacles—tall grass, thorns, ruts, and stumps left over from logging. The only way to clear the mess and make the land “nice and pretty” again was to burn it all down.

The spiritual parallel is powerful. As 1 Peter 4:12-13 reminds us in the video’s featured song, we shouldn’t think it “strange” when we face fiery trials. Just as the field needs fire to clear out the stumps and thorns, God often allows us to go through the fires of tribulation to clear out the “mess” in our own characters.

Rejoicing in the Heat It’s easy to complain when things get hot, but the Bible tells us to rejoice. Why? because the fire isn’t the end of the story. The burning is just “the process of making things look better”.

Sometimes, you have to burn down the old growth to make room for something beautiful.
